KM REILLY
Kathleen M. Reilly is a printmaker and painter working from Golden Bay, in New Zealand's upper South Island. Kathy’s work is exhibited regularly around New Zealand and in Australia.

Trained as a Graphic Designer, Kathy’s work offers a witty but thoughtful perspective on personal, political and social commentary, and is predominantly in the medium of etching & oil on canvas. Commissioned work has included portraits in oils, pen & ink drawings of historic architecture, and book illustrations and covers.

She has work in public and private collections in Canada, England, Germany,, Denmark, Australia and New Zealand. All artworks are copyright © 2001-2012 K M Reilly.

ETCHING
Etching is an intaglio printing technique made famous by Rembrandt and others in the 17th century.

My etchings are produced by the action of nitric acid on nickel plate. The plate is coated with an acid resist ground which is then drawn through to expose the metal. The plate is immersed in acid, which "bites" through the lines drawn.

The plate is then cleaned and polished, then inked. The inked plate is buffed clean, leaving the etched lines filled with ink.

Dampened paper is laid on the plate and passed through the press, resulting in the print.

"Each print in the edition is an original, printed from the plate for that purpose. There is no one original print from which copies are made. Each print is inked and pulled individually - it is a multi-original medium".
